Program Overview
Make your first step into the tourism job market a confident one, with a Certificate III in Tourism – International Retail Travel Sales from Sunshine Coast TAFE. The course provides participants with the practical skills and associated knowledge to carry out sales related activities in tourism organisations such as travel agencies, wholesale tour operations, airlines, tourist information centres and similar industry enterprises.

About your program of study
This Qualification is structured over one semester. The course content consists mainly of theory sessions with some practical. The practical component comes in the form of computer work and an option of participating in the unit VPC80 – Vocational Placement, a minimum of 25 hours. Vocational Placement provides practical training in Travel Agencies, Tourist Information Offices, Wholesale Operations, Local Operators, Hotel Tour Desks and more on the Sunshine Coast so students can experience the ‘first hand’ atmosphere and experience of working in the Travel and Tourism Industry.

Entry Requirements
Equivalent of Australian Year 10 or Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies.

Academic Requirements
TAFE Queensland requires proficiency in the English language before you can begin formal studies. This is determined by one of the following prerequisites:-

International English Language Testing System IELTS, academic module score of 5.5 with no individual score less than 5;
Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL – score of 530 PBT or 197 CBT;
Successful completion of an acceptable formal course where the medium of instruction was English. This does not include ELICOS
Completion of Stage 2 minimum Direct English Entry Program – University of the Sunshine Coast
Swedish students – V, VG or MVG in English A & English B on your School Leaving Certificate

There are additional materials and uniform charges for this program that are not included in tuition fees.

Assessment
Assessment is undertaken throughout the course both in practical and theory exercises. Assessment is competency based and requires the completion of all projects and assignments, written and/or practical, as set out within the Unit Study Guides and Workbooks. Written, verbal and practical assessments make up the majority of assessments, but grooming, hygiene, attendance, general aeneral attitude and your application to your studies are also taken into account.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Individuals may receive credit for their knowledge and skills through recognition of prior learning RPL upon completion of the RPL process. This process is undertaken once an applicant has been offered and accepted a place in the program.

Assessment may include skills and achievements from:

Work experience paid and unpaid

Life experience for example leisure pursuits or voluntary work

Previous study formal or informal training and education, for example industry training, school, college or adult education classes

In order to grant RPL, an assessor must be confident that candidates are currently competent. Evidence used for assessment may take a variety of forms and could include certification, references from past employers, work samples, testimonials from clients and challenge testing.
