Famous French singer to play Fête de la Musique Brisbane

Famous French, singer, pianist, guitar player, Martin Rappeneau will perform at Brisbane’s Fête de la Musique on Sunday 21 June on his first ever Australian tour.

The 33 year old Martin Rappeneau will be one of more than 330 performers or groups of almost all music styles, abilities and ages that have signed up to perform as part of Fête de la Musique Brisbane.

This is Brisbane’s second Fête de la Musique, the world’s largest free international music event, which began in France in the early 1980s and is now celebrated in more than 350 cities around the globe every year on 21 June – the northern hemisphere summer solstice.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said Rappeneau will bring a distinctly French flavour to Fête de la Musique Brisbane.

“Having Martin Rappeneau perform at Fête de la Musique Brisbane will give our city an even stronger tie with this worldwide music celebration and its French beginnings,” Cr Newman said.

“France has long been considered Europe’s centre for arts and music and Fête de la Musique has become such a social phenomenon there that it even had a postage stamp devoted to it in 1998.

“Rappeneau is an accomplished musician who is influenced by pop and funk styles and has produced music for several of his famous film-maker father,Jean-Paul Rappeneau’s films.

“Council would like to thank event partner, Alliance Française Brisbane for coordinating Rappeneau’s appearance at Fête de la Musique Brisbane.”

Martin is expected to headline the opening celebrations of Fête de la Musique Brisbane on the Queen Street Mall’s main stage.

Fête de la Musique Brisbane is presented by Council in association with Alliance Française, Brisbane Marketing, The Courier-Mail and NOVA 106.9 FM.

Fête de la Musique Brisbane follows the international charter and principles of Fête de la Musique(http://fetedelamusique.culture.fr) where all musicians perform for free and all performances are free to attend.

Full program information will be available online from next week.

For further information on Fête de la Musique Brisbane, visit http://www.fetedelamusiquebrisbane.com.au or phone Council on (07) 3403 8888.
