The goal of NICTA’s Networks and Pervasive Computing research program is to contribute to the development of new applications that can be used in
wireless networks environments to provide new services to users, and to develop mechanisms that will provide new functionality and improved performance in pervasive computing environments.Accountabilities and Associated Responsibilities:
The Office in a Box project is building a prototype system which
encompasses core technologies required for an integrated solution for network access for remote users:
VoIP, data compression and wireless link performance enhancements for data applications. We are in the process of commercialising this research
in a new spin-off company. The team comprises researchers with diverse skills and backgrounds; the project team currently has expertise in wireless communications, networking technologies, VoIP technologies and Linux/Unix development.Duties:
The Research Engineer will be required to contribute to a number of
aspects of the project, including:
• Linux configuration of different hardware platforms;
• Development of advanced technologies for IP telephony and data compression;
• Programming, documentation and testing of developed software;
• System integration and software maintenance.Essential Requirements:
• Graduate qualification in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
with two to three years software development experience.
• Linux developer skills.
• Demonstrated programming skills in C/C++ and knowledge of version control systems i.e. cvs/svn.
• Highly self-motivated and willing to learn new technology.
Desirable Requirements:
• Experience relevant to the team’s R&D area including network protocols, VoIP and data compression technologies.
